A steel engraving of the north front of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea on Royal Hospital Road by H West with an inmate standing outside. The Royal Hospital, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, was built to accommodate army veterans to repay their years of loyalty to the Crown. The foundation stone was laid by Charles II in 1682 and 487 pensioners were admitted in 1689.
