Chelsea Vestry accounts for 1678, the first entry concerns Kensal perambulation cost
Detailed and beautifully written accounts were maintained by the Vestry churchwardens. These early accounts show that in the 17th century the churchwardens were responsible for a mix of church and local matters. The first entry is for the ancient practice of 'perambulation of bounds', or walking the parish boundaries, in this case the 'outbounds', meaning Kensal. Other entries include payment to a midwife, church building works, court fees and payments to the parish constable.
