Watercolour of Notting Hill Farm showing an idealised picture of rural life

The area north of Notting Hill Gate was dominated by farms the largest being Notting Barns Farm and Portobello Farm. This painting is of Notting Hill farm one of the smaller farms closer to Holland Park Avenue. The scene is highly idealised and bears little resemblance to the harsh reality of farm work. Houses can be seen in the background and in the 1920s the farm was demolished and a terrace was erected on Holland Park Avenue close to Ladbroke Grove.
