Changes to Parking Penalty charges from 1 July 2007

The system of parking penalty charges will change with effect from 1 July 2007.

The current fixed penalty notice scheme will be replaced and differential parking penalties will be introduced.

London Councils undertake a major review of additional parking charges every four years. London Councils and Transport for London (TfL) carried out a joint consultation with London local authorities, motorists and motoring groups.

The results were presented to London Councils Transport and Environment Committee (TEC) in December 2006.

Following approval by the Mayor of London and Secretary of State for Transport, all boroughs across London are required to introduce differential parking penalties from 1 July 2007.

The new tiered system introduces two levels of charges payable for a parking penalty. Differential charging will impose a higher charge on parking contraventions that cause the most disruption and danger to pedestrians and other road users.

Less serious contraventions will attract a lower charge. This will help us to ensure the right balance is struck between being firm and being fair.

The roads in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are classified as Band A for on street and off street contraventions, so the following charges will apply:

More serious (as defined by Appendix 1) Less serious (as defined by Appendix 2)
Borough roads - Band A £120 £80

The discount of 50 per cent will apply to the above charges if the charge is paid within the 14-day period set out in legislation.

Additional parking charge increases from 1 July 2007
