Course fees 2008-9 (standard, discounts and concessions)

Information about courses and fees

Please note the following:

  • Course fees are subject to change on 9th October each year, or before. This depends upon external factors such as examination bodies increasing their fees, materials and training room costs.
  • Open course fees are charged per person from a business attending a course in the Council’s training venues. (For reduced fee eligibility, see Concessionary fees.) Courses are run on Council premises.
  • In-house course fees are charged per person. Courses are run on the premises of the business or organisation. The total course fee, which applies when there are less than eight candidates, is shown brackets.
  • Concessionary fees are available on certain accredited and non-accredited courses (see Concessionary fees for eligible categories of people) and are charged per person attending an Open or In-house course.
  • All fees include materials and examination fees.
  • There is no VAT on local authority training.
  • Lunch is not provided by the Council.
  • On the day of training, the trainer cannot shorten the course to suit your operational needs because the examination bodies set strict criteria.
  • The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea reserves the right to offer the same accredited level of qualification, using an alternative examination body’s examination papers.
  • Advertised fees are subject to change at the discretion of the Council.
  • Where candidates are attending a course that ends in an examination, they must provide a form of photographic identification (passport, work ID, driving license, etc). Remember, No ID = No exam!

Discounts

Discounts (rounded up to the nearest pound) are available on fees as follows:

  • 10% discount to those from businesses, individuals and concessions who make a booking for a place on both a Level 4 Food Safety or Level 4 Health and Safety course and a Professional Trainer Certificate course at the same time. For instance, the fee for one person booking a Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering and a Professional Trainer Certificate at the same time would be £725 (or £661 per person if booked for an in-house course of eight attendees).
  • 10% discount for block bookings from individual businesses (but not concessions) booking more than eight candidates on any open Levels 1 and 2 courses to be run only in Council premises. For example, a business booking (at the same time) three places on one Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering and five places on a Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace would be charged £455 for eight people.
  • 10% refund for a single course booking for all businesses (but not concessions) only located in the Royal Borough that have shown positive compliance improvement in the technically assessed standards of food safety or health and safety within a twelve-month period starting from the next immediate inspection (and subject to approval from an enforcement officer).

In-house accredited courses

Please note the following:

  • Fees for courses run in your premises are charged on a per-person basis. Block booking discounts do not apply.
  • We require between eight and 15 candidates to run an in-house course. If there are less than eight people, the organisation will be charged an equivalent course fee of the total for eight candidates.
  • The trainer cannot shorten the course to suit your operational needs because the examination bodies set strict criteria.
  • Unless discussed otherwise, the trainer will need access from 8.30am.
  • One-day courses start at 9.00am. Courses often end shortly after 5pm - the end time cannot given exactly as it depends on the type of course and other variables.
  • If you need to book a Council training room to hold the course, there will be a separate charge. To discuss your needs and get a price, contact the Senior Training Advisor on 020 7341 5606 or 5652, or email the Training Co-ordinator. See also the page In-house Training.

Your organisation or business will need to supply the following equipment:

  • Tables and chairs (set up in a boardroom or U-shape before the trainer arrives). There should be 1.25m between the centres of each candidate for courses that end in an examination
  • Television and video/DVD player
  • Overhead projector, screen, flipchart, digital projector
  • One laptop computer
  • A wall-mounted clock

Please note: If you cannot provide the stated equipment on the day of training, the trainer has the right to leave, and may not conduct the examinations (where relevant). In this instance you will be charged for the course regardless of whether or not it goes ahead.

You must also provide:

  • Tea, coffee, water and lunch
  • Full venue details including a venue map, if necessary
  • A contact name and telephone number

  • To book a course, please ask for a training agreement to be sent to you. This should be signed and returned within 14 days of your provisional booking. If the signed training agreement(s) is/are not returned within the 14-day period, then there are no guarantees that your provisionally booked place(s) will still be available.
  • The trainer cannot shorten the course to suit your operational needs because the examination bodies set strict criteria.
  • Candidates must bring some form of photographic identification if they are to sit the examinations at the end of qualification courses.
  • Payment by cheque is required, though medium to large organisations may pay by purchase order or request an invoice. Joining instructions and a venue map will follow. Certificates will not be sent out until payment has been received.

Course cancellations

  • The Royal Borough reserves the right to cancel or postpone advertised courses and increase the fees as necessary.
  • If you need to cancel your place once the training agreement has been sent back to the Council or you have received your joining instructions, at least 14 days written notice must be given by you if a refund or alternative arrangements are to take place.
  • Cancellations made less than 14 days before the course will not be re-funded and settlement of invoices despatched on receipt of your signed training agreement will be expected (unless there is a bereavement, valid medical certificate, transport disruption, or cancellation of the course by the Council).
