Kensington High Street improvements
Kensington High Street lies at the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and is a vital part of the fabric of the community. It runs through an area rich in history that enjoys a wealth of architectural styles, in particular the fine buildings of the 1930s such as Barkers and the old Derry and Toms building. In recognition of the importance of Kensington High Street the Council has carried out a major programme of improvements. Its aim was to maintain and enhance the vitality, viability and attractiveness of the High street as a shopping centre as well as a place to live and work. The Council wanted to create not only an improved look and style, but also a street that was safer and easier for pedestrians to use and enjoy.
