This monitoring plan, which accompanies the community strategy presents a suite of performance indicators to monitor progress against the aims in the community strategy. Find out more go to Improving our community

Community Strategy - what is it?

A Community Strategy is a plan for the future.

It provides a long-term vision and co-ordinates the actions of the public agencies and private and community organisations to meet the needs and priorities of local communities.

The aim of the Community Strategy is to look forward ten to fifteen years and make plans to enhance the quality of life of local communities. It should contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in the UK through action to improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of the area and its inhabitants.

In November 2005 the Kensington and Chelsea Partnership (KCP) published their second community strategy entitled ‘The Future Of Our Community 2005-2015: The Second Community Strategy for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’.

You can read the strategy online. You can also download it as a PDF document or as separate PDF chapters:

Why another strategy?

There are at least as many strategies and plans as there are partnerships in Kensington and Chelsea!

The Community Strategy is a new enterprise - but it does not start with a blank sheet of paper, as existing plans and strategies have been researched and consulted upon.

The Community Strategy does not sweep these aside, but looks further ahead, seeking to ensure a consistent approach between the various plans.

The single content of any strategy can have wider implications beyond its traditional professional boundaries. For example, the Primary Care Trust's Local Delivery Plan refers not only to core health matters, but also reflects upon related community safety and environmental issues.

By considering the long-term implications of pursuing current approaches, the Community Strategy encourages agencies to plan and work together to achieve better outcomes for the community.
