Unitary Development Plan

Adopted 25 May 2002, as amended 28 September 2007

New development

The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) is a land use plan. It provides the statutory planning framework for the local planning authority setting out the objectives, policies and proposals for the use of land and buildings in the area for the next 10 years.

Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 the policies contained within the Council’s UDP were saved for 3 years until 27 September 2007.

The Act also allows for the extension of policies beyond this date. This requires a specific direction from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.

Only the policies listed in the Secretary of State’s direction can be used for the determination of planning applications. A copy of the UDP as amended by the direction can be viewed below.

The struck out policies within the red-shaded boxes expire on September 27 2007. The remaining policies constitute the Council’s UDP as amended 28 September 2007.

For information on buying or viewing the adopted UDP visit Information about the adopted UDP.
