Respite and convalescent care

Help with respite and convalescent care in the UK or abroad may be available if a person with HIV/AIDS:

  • has experienced prolonged and severe emotional stress which has seriously affected their health
  • or is in hospital/hospice and on discharge would not be able to cope without major input from homecare services (and there are no family / carers / friends to provide this support)
  • or has a full-time carer who requires temporary relief and there is no-one to provide alternative care.

Care can be provided at Bethany or Sussex Beacon. The cost of full board and travel will be paid. Places are also funded by the Health Authority at:

Care can also be provided by family or friends or in a guest house or hotel in the UK or abroad. In this case, a maximum of £150 for all costs is payable and can only be paid once in a 12 month period. For further information contact your local Social Services office.
