The Royal Borough’s Arts Service aims to encourage, support and promote the development of a wide range of art forms including architecture, fashion, new media, film, public art, music and theatre. The Arts Service is committed to:

  • increasing access to and participation in the arts
  • developing the infrastructure of arts provisions in the borough
  • encouraging artistic excellence and promoting good practice

In order to achieve this, the Arts Service provides advice and information to enable artists and organisations to flourish, works in partnership to develop innovative arts projects and activities and also organises regular arts networking events on a range of issues.

The Arts Service also runs a small Arts Grants Scheme to support arts activities or projects undertaken within the borough, and an Artists' Professional Development Bursary Scheme, and is a partner in ‘The Seer’ online arts service for London. Please see www.theseer.info

Helping artists achieve their potential

The Arts Services supplied by the Council are there for all artists from painters and writers to dancers and musicians. Our main aim is to support and give direction to the relevant resources that are needed for artists to flourish. We have a number of schemes in place to support artists that live and work in the borough.

For more information see Arts grants scheme.

Equality Action Plan Toolkit

What is an Equalities Action Plan Toolkit?

This Equality Action Plan Toolkit is part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s 'Arts for All' initiative in which we aim to improve participation in arts activities by hard to reach groups in the community. This Toolkit is a practical resource focusing on race and disability equality. It is designed to take your arts organisation through this process.

With this Toolkit, we hope to:

  • raise awareness of disabled and minority ethnic communities' needs among arts organisations within the Royal Borough
  • positively influence policy development
  • improve access for all residents of the borough

This Toolkit is only a starting point - you have to use it in order for it to be effective. For those effects to be meaningful, we encourage you to make use of the tools provided here over the long term. There is no quick-fix approach if we are to ensure that the broadest access to arts and culture is achieved.

West London Spring and Summer Festivals Calendar 2009

The fifth edition of the West London Festivals Calendar for spring and summer 2009 is out now. This year’s spring and summer calendar features more than 40 fantastic arts and cultural festivals taking place across seven west London boroughs.

The Western Wedge is a partnership of seven local authorities, supported by Arts Council England, who work together for a more strategic approach to arts and culture in west London.

For further information on Western Wedge's work and west London's Cultural Offer 2012, please visit the Western Wedge website

Creative and Cultural Sector Report

In July 2008 BOP Consulting was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to investigate the size and character of the creative and cultural sector in the borough. The following report presents the findings of this research.

On Wednesday 8 July 2009, from 6 to 8pm we are organising a networking event to present the full findings of the research and launch our new ten year plan for supporting Arts and Culture in the Royal Borough.

The event will also be a great chance to meet and network with colleagues working in the creative and cultural sector within the borough and with key council contacts working to support the sector.

Paul Owens, Director of BOP consulting, who led on the research will be presenting the key findings; Tot Brill, Executive Director of Transport Environment and Leisure Services, will be discussing how the council plans to support the creative and cultural sector in the borough over the next 10 years.

There will be opportunities to pose questions to the speakers, network with other attendees and bring and collect leaflets from our information tables.

For further information or to reserve a place, please contact the Arts Service on 020 7361 2062 or by email: Arts@rbkc.gov.uk
