Angels and Madonnas

by Christopher Lord

Chelsea Old Town Hall – Chelsea Gallery Angels and Madonnas

14 to 23 December 2011

Christopher Lord is delighted to invite you to a Champagne Reception and Private View of his Biennial Exhibition of Cuzco School paintings: "ANGELS AND MADONNAS"

'Angels and Madonnas' is the theme this year for the biennial exhibition in Chelsea Town Hall of paintings of the Cuzco School, some 60 works all beautifully reminiscent of the colours, textures and subjects of the late 15th Century European Old Masters.

Initially evolving from the Italian Renaissance and Flemish-Sevillan Schools, this form of art takes its inspiration from painters such as Rubens, Murillo, Zurbaran and Caravaggio. The stylised angels, archangels, Madonnas and Virgins beautifully evoke the Spanish Baroque School of art that has developed into a sort of popular folk art that astonishingly is practised even today throughout Peru, using many of the original religious themes.

All the paintings available are original oils executed mainly on canvas, with some on wood or copper and dating from the late 18th century to more recent times. The works are of varying sizes, the majority are framed and all are priced between £150 and £650.
