Chelsea and Westminster Hospital - streetscape improvements

In August 2010 we completed improvements to the area outside the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. We created an attractive space that makes it easier for the large number of people who use the area to move about more freely.

The works included:

• removing a low wall outside the hospital and reconstructing the lay-by to provide more space for pedestrians
• removing the excessive guard railing and street furniture
• replacing raised planters and old trees with new trees more in keeping with the environment
• repaving the area in natural York stone to provide a smooth attractive level surface which is easier for people with restricted mobility or using wheelchairs
• improving the two pelican crossings near the hospital.
