Access keys are keyboard short cuts to help you navigate your way around a website without having to use a mouse or other pointing device. They assist users with both physical and visual disabilities.

Access keys are browser and operating system specific. The following explains how to implement access keys on different browsers.

| Windows 95 I.E. 4 - 5.5 | Press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter, then "Enter" to activate |
| Windows 98 I.E. 6 | Press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter, then "Enter" to activate |
| Netscape 6 | Press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter |
| Mozilla Firefox | Press "Alt" and the relevant number/letter |
| Macintosh-based systems, | Press the "Ctrl" key and the relevant access key |
Note: Some older browsers do not support access keys. Access keys are only supported by MS Internet Explorer 4 and above and by Netscape 6x versions
Note: The following example is based on Internet Explorer. Not all browsers may show a "highlighted" link in this way.
In Internet Explorer links that are "highlighted" will appear with dotted lines around them. See the example shown left.
