The Council works to provide services which meet the needs of all who live in, work in or visit this vibrant part of Central London. Whether it is going to school, borrowing from the libraries, visiting a museum, working in an office, using social services, the refuse collection, or simply travelling the borough, the Council works to ensure services operate smoothly and efficiently.
The Council operates a leader and cabinet decision making system along similar lines to central government. Overview and Scrutiny committees hold the cabinet to account and are able to ask for decisions to be reviewed. All the borough's 54 Councillors have a vital role to play under this system, representing your interests. They are your key link to the Council, channelling your views and giving advice and help.
Five 'directorates' or 'business groups' share responsibility for the Council's operations. These are Family and Children’s Services; Transport, Environment and Leisure; Housing, Health and Adult Social Care; Planning and Borough Development and Corporate Services.
The Council works in partnership with many organisations in the borough. Examples of key partnerships include the Health and Well-being Partnership, and the Community Safety Partnership Board, as well as the Kensington and Chelsea Partnership.
