About Us

Leighton House has been open to the public as a museum since 1900. It has been administered by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea since 1927. This website was produced to coincide with the UK wide Festival of Muslim Cultures 2006-07 and was conceived and written by Alan Kirwan and Katherine Rose within the Education Department at Leighton House Museum. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the website was one of a series of initiatives at the museum that also incorporated a major conference, exhibition and schools and community projects.

The website and extensive programme of events successfully highlighted the mix of diverse cultures that are at the core of the museum and its collections.

Thanks are due to Jonathan Greet for website design, interior and virtual reality photography, and the IT department at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Thanks also to Frederique Cifuentes for her photographs of children at Leighton House in the Teachers' Notes, Andrew Wiard of MLA London for additional interior photography of Leighton House and to Tom Relleen for recordings of the sound in the virtual tour.

Thanks also to Sue Buck, Michelle Larché, Jessica Morgan, Bella Christou, Miriam Nelken and Shamim Salaam.
