Portobello Road market

While Portobello Road market is one of the most famous markets in the world - internationally recognised for its second-hand and antiques sections - it has also served the local community in the north of the Borough since its beginnings in the 1880s. While we are updating our markets history page, you can find lots of information on local history at the North Kensington Library in Ladbroke Grove.

General market opening times

  • 08.00 until 19.00 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
  • 08.00 until 13.00 Thursday

These times vary depending on weather conditions and the season. The market is closed on UK Bank Holidays, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. For an idea of what you might expect to find in the markets throughout the week, please visit the page titled Our markets.

Portobello Road Antiques Market

In good weather, many antiques traders operate on Fridays in addition to the traditional Saturdays. The Portobello Road Antiques Dealers Association (PADA) is a great source of information about antiques dealers, arcades, galleries, shops, services, and more.

How to get there - tube and bus information

The nearest underground station is Notting Hill Gate which is on the Central, Circle and District lines. Ladbroke Grove which is on the Hammersmith and City Line is also fairly near to Portobello Road. Buses 7, 12, 23, 27, 28, 31, 52, 70 and 328 all stop close to Portobello Road.

Visitors are advised to come by public transport as parking spaces are scarce especially on Saturdays. Coach operators should set down and pick up at Notting Hill Gate and drivers should not attempt to travel into Portobello Road.
