Since 1917, World Book Incorporated has set the standard for providing accuracy, objectivity, and reliability in research materials for both children and adults.

You can now access this wealth of information via the Libraries in the Royal Borough, or from your own home. You must be a member of the Libraries to access this service from home.

World Book

World Book is an online encyclopaedia and contains a wealth of information including:

  • More than 25,000 articles and over 27,000 illustrations, photos, tables and charts, sound, animation and video clips
  • Historic articles from past World Book Year Books present a you-are-there account of the most significant events of each year
  • Interactive atlas with over 2,200 maps
  • Comprehensive dictionary

Special features include:

  • Behind the headlines – check the stories behind the headlines and search related articles
  • Today in history – find out what happened on this day
  • Surf the ages – real history presented as an imaginary news site, dip into ancient times, the Middle ages or Modern times
  • Student activities – including trivia quizzes, science projects and an online summer camp
  • Explore the UK – information about the UK including the kings and queens, history, and government
  • Study skills information – special articles help you to get writing skills, speaking skills and research skills
  • The ability to save, print or e-mail articles

World Book Research Library

The Research Library is a huge collection of primary source material in eight subject areas. The contents of over 5,500 complete books and 260,000 documents of great writers, scientists, philosophers and engineers made available online. Search by subject area, keyword, quotation and author.
