Street trading application process

Note: The street trading reserve list for Canival 2008 is now closed. It will be re-opened in September 2008

There are currently 256 allocated street trading sites within the Carnival Area.

All traders must attend a Carnival Safety Training Session irrespective of how long they have been at Carnival

The licensing of street traders within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is dealt with by the Royal Borough in consultation with the Carnival organisers.

The licensing of street traders is dealt with in two stages.

Stage 1

Sites are offered to the traders from the previous year, subject to them having complied with the conditions of the licence.

Stage 2

Remaining sites are offered to applicants from the reserve list on a first-come first-served basis.

Important: All applicants must have public liability insurance of £5 million before applying to join the reserve list.

Cost of licences

There are two types of trading pitch at Carnival - Type A and Type B

  • Type A is for food or non food trading
  • Type B is for ice cream vehicles
