Work has begun on preparing the site for the start of construction in September 2008. Chelsea Academy will be a Church of England secondary school, specialising in the sciences and catering for 810 11-16 year olds with a sixth form for 250 students. The Academy will open in September 2009 in temporary accommodation on Hortensia Road. The new building will open a year later on Lots Road.
The Academy will be sponsored jointly by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the London Diocesan Board for Schools.
Councillor Merrick Cockell, Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, said “We want the Academy to become an inspirational school that can compete with the very best on offer in either the state or private education sectors”.
Detailed planning permission was granted by the Major Development Planning Committee on 25 September 2007. |
