The Production
The highly successful 2010 production of
Fantastic Mr Fox returned to the Yucca Lawn, Holland Park
in the summers of 2011 and 2012.
The production came about after several years of discussion with
the Roald Dahl Estate. Opera Holland Park committed to producing a
very special production in a European Premiere of a new version
commissioned especially by the company. Tobias Picker, the composer
and Donald Sturrock the librettist worked very closely with OHP on
devising a fifty minute long version of the opera.
In 2010, nine performances were played out in different locations
across the Yucca Lawn with 130 children and their families moving
from one location to another throughout the performance. The
production returned in 2011 for 12 performances and in 2012 for 10
performances.
Directed by Stephen Barlow, one of the UK's most inventive and
exciting young directors and featuring some of OHP's best singers
of recent years, the opera was accompanied by 8 musicians from
OHP's resident orchestra The City of London Sinfonia and by The
London Mozart Players in 2011 and 2012.
Fantastic Mr Fox took a well-loved children's story and
led children and young people into a whole new magical world of
performance art - watch a video
