We aim to support staff within the YSDS by providing material electronically wherever we can. We believe that this assists communications within YSDS. We welcome your suggestions for forms that we could provide online.

Email your suggestions to learning@rbkc.gov.uk.

Off-site activities

Children and young people can derive a great deal of educational benefit from taking part in organised visits. In particular, they have the opportunity to undergo experiences not available in their normal environment.

For more information please see our Guidelines and code of practice for off-site activities pages.

Education Business Partnership

The Education Business Partnership (EBP) brings together schools, colleges, businesses and the voluntary sector to form lasting partnerships of mutual benefit. The range of projects includes:

  • Work Experience for school and college students. Students aged 14-19 can undertake either a block placement (for example two weeks) or day release (one to two days per week for 10+ weeks).
  • Mentoring matches employees with young people on a one to one basis. The pair then work together for a specified period on an agreed programme to support the young person’s education/personal development.
  • Teacher placements can be for one to five days. These involve teachers working in a company and shadowing employees to either develop management skills or develop curriculum resources. The placement should link with the school/colleges CPD programme.
  • Careers and industry days to raise awareness of employment opportunities in the world of work.
  • Visits to industry by students following a vocational course. The students can observe skilled professionals at work and gain a better understanding of the variety of roles and how departments link together
  • Employees volunteer to visit schools to do careers talks, interview skills training, judging competitions, etc.
  • Business challenges are tasks set by industry (anything from marketing a new product to transporting goods through road closures) to a group of students. The group will then initiate various entrepreneurial skills to come up with a proposal and then present this back to the business.
