Tracing for the composition of the painting 'Greek Girl Dancing' (c.1867, untraced). The composition is similar to that of the finished painting, although the position of the feet of the dancing figure are different, and the lions head architectural decoration, to the right of the composition, was not included in the finished work.
Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896; collection of Leighton House Museum
