Upper centre of sheet: study for the right leg of Helios in the painting 'Helios and Rhodos' (c.1869, Tate). The leg is drawn from just above the knee to the toe. Beneath this is a faint study for the same foot and ankle. Lower left of sheet: study for the left foot and ankle of Helios. Lower centre of sheet: study for the left leg of Helios.
Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896; collection of Leighton House Museum
