Left of sheet: full-length study for the male figure with back to viewer and right foot resting on a step, to the right of the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to War' (1878-80, Victoria and Albert Museum). The sword, indicated on the drawing, is not seen in the finished work. The head wear also differs in the finished work. Centre of sheet: study for the right sleeve of the same male figure. Part of the right hand is also indicated. Right of sheet: study for the left sleeve of the same male figure. Part of the left hand is also indicated.
