Inscribed lower right "Arts of War SK" in pencil. Stamped lower left "LLC" encircled, in black ink. Inscribed on reverse, centre "M88" encircled, in pencil.
Left of sheet: study for the right side of the jacket of the kneeling male figure, seen just left of centre in the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to War' (1878-80, Victoria and Albert Museum). Part of the right hand is also indicated. Right of sheet: study for the left side of the jacket of the same male figure. Part of the left hand is also indicated.
