Left of sheet: study for the right side of the jacket of the male figure bending forward and leaning down, seen to the left of the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to War' (1878-80, Victoria and Albert Museum). Part of the right hand is also indicated. Right of sheet: study for the right sleeve of the male figure leaning on a sword, the point of which touches the ground, just right of centre in the fresco. The hand is lightly indicated.
