Left of sheet: half-length nude study for the male figure turned to the right and loading a crossbow, seen to the far right of the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to War' (1878-80, Victoria and Albert Museum). Part of the crossbow is also indicated. Just to the lower right are two small drapery studies for the left knee and ankle, and to the lower left is a small drapery study for the right ankle. Right of sheet: half-length nude study for the male figure bending forward to load a crossbow, with back to viewer, seen to the far right of the fresco.
