Upper third of sheet: study for the composition of the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to Peace' (1883-86, Victoria and Albert Museum). The figures have been omitted from this study and the architecture is very different to that seen in the finished work. Central third of sheet: study for the composition of the fresco.
