Left of sheet: full-length study of a male figure turned to the left. To the lower right of this is a smaller similar study. The figure bends forward. The left hand reaches away from the body to the right. The right hand reaches down to the left and holds a pole. The right leg is slightly bent. The left foot is raised above knee height as if the figure has taken a large step down. The figure wears a hat and loin cloth. Centre of sheet: full-length study of a male figure, facing the viewer, with head in profile facing left. Right of sheet: full-length study of the same male figure. Lower centre of sheet: full-length rough study for the group of two male figures carrying a load, seen to the far left of the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to Peace' (1883-86, Victoria and Albert Museum). To the right of this is a similar study, however they are not viewed from the same angle as the finished work. Centre right of sheet: full-length rough study of a male figure, in profile facing to the right, carrying a load. The upper body is bent forward. Lower right of sheet: full-length rough study of a male figure carrying a load.
