Description

Upper third of sheet: study for the figures of Elisha and the boy in the painting 'Elisha Raising the Son of the Shunammite' (c.1881, Leighton House Museum). Centre left of sheet: full-length study of a seated male figure, sitting on the ground and leaning against a rock. Centre right of sheet: full-length study of a seated male figure, sitting on the ground and leaning against a rock. Lower third of sheet: study for the figures of Elisha and the boy in the painting 'Elisha Raising the Son of the Shunammite'.

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896; collection of Leighton House Museum
