Interpretation

Possibly a study for the painting 'Whispers' (c.1881, untraced).

Description

Full-length nude study of two figures sitting side by side, facing to the right. The drawing is very faint and it is not clear whether they are male or female. The figure to the right has the left leg crossed over the right and the right arm resting across the shoulders of the other figure. The figure to the left rests the head on the right hand and the right elbow on the right thigh. The left forearm rests across the right thigh.
