Left of sheet: full-length study of the sculpture of a female figure, seen in the centre of the painting 'The Dance' (c.1881-83, Leighton House Museum). Right of sheet: full-length study of the sculpture of a female figure, seen in the centre of the painting 'Music' (c.1883-85, Leighton House Museum). This study differs considerably to the finished work as the lyre rests on the ground to the left of the figure and the figure's hands rest between her knees.
