Stamped lower left "LLC" encircled, in black ink. Inscribed lower right "10 Andromche" in pencil. Inscribed on reverse, lower centre "139B" encircled, in pencil. Stamped four times on reverse, "RBK" encircled, in blue ink.
Left of sheet: full length study of a crouching female figure facing the viewer. The head is turned to the right, the right arm reaches down to lift a pitcher, the left hand holds up the skirt of her classical dress. This may be a study for the figure seen to the lower left of the study for the painting 'Captive Andromache' at Leighton House Museum (reference number LHO/D/663). Centre of sheet: full-length study for the figure just left of centre, with a pitcher on her head, seenin the drawing at Leighton House Museum. Right of sheet: three-quarter length study for the same female figure. Lower right of sheet: study for the head, shoulders and arms of the same female figure.
Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896; collection of Leighton House Museum
