Description

Left of sheet: full-length outline study for the mother and baby to the right of the painting 'Captive Andromache' (1888, City Art Gallery, Manchester). Upper centre of sheet: full-length study for the baby to the right of the painting. This study differs from the final painting as the baby's left arm is not raised. Upper right of sheet: rough outline studies for parts of the baby's body, seen to the right of the painting. Lower centre of sheet: full-length study for the seated female figure, seen to the left of the painting.
