Full-length study for the female figure to the right of the painting 'The Garden of the Hesperides' (c.1892, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight). The dish on the lap of the figure is also drawn but, in proportion to the figure, it is larger than the dish in the finished work. The serpent and the left arm of the figure in the centre of the painting are also indicated.
Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896; collection of Leighton House Museum
