Left of sheet: full-length study for the female figure in the painting 'The Spirit of the Summit' ('The Spirit of the Summit' (c.1894, Auckland City Art Gallery). The right hand rests between the knees, rather than on the right thigh. Centre of sheet: full-length study for the same female figure. Unlike the finished work the figure is in profile, facing to the left. Right of sheet: full-length study for the same female figure. Unlike the finished work the figure is facing the viewer.
