Upper left of sheet: thumbnail sketch of the composition of the painting 'Summer Slumber' (c.1894, private collection). Upper centre of sheet: thumbnail sketch of the composition of the painting 'The Spirit of the Summit' (c.1894, Auckland City Art Gallery). Upper right of sheet: two thumbnail sketches of the composition of the painting 'The Bracelet' (c.1894, private collection). Lower left of sheet: thumbnail sketch of the composition of the painting 'Fatidica' (c.1894, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight). Lower half of sheet: full-length study for the same figure. The pose is similar to the finshed work. 

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896 (Fine Art Society reference number F86); purchased from the Fine Art Society through the Leighton Fund for ú6:6:0; presented to Leighton House Museum in c.1897
