Upper left of sheet: three thumbnail studies for the painting 'Greek Girls Playing at Ball' (c.1889, Dick Institute, Kilmarnock) and one unidentified composition. Upper right of sheet: three thumbnail studies, possibly for the painting 'Return of Persephone' (c.1891, City Art Gallery, Leeds). Centre left of sheet: five thumbnail studies, possibly for the painting 'Greek Girls Playing at Ball'. Centre of sheet: three thumbnail studies for 'Return of Persephone'. Centre right of sheet: three unidentified thumbnail studies and one for 'Return of Persephone'. Lower left of sheet: thumbnail study for the painting 'Elijah in the Wilderness' (c.1878, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool). Lower centre of sheet: two unidentified thumbnail studies and one for 'Return of Persephone'. Lower right of sheet: thumbnail study for 'Elijah in the Wilderness'.
