Left of sheet: full-length study for the girl to the lower right of the painting 'The Bracelet' (c.1894, private collection). The pose is entirely different to the painting. The figure is standing and faces the viewer, with the body turned slightly to the right and the head tilted back and turned to the left. The dress and hair are similar to the painting and the figure holds a length of fabric before her, at waist height. Right of sheet: full-length study for the girl in a similar pose, but with back to the viewer and turned to the left. A length of drapery falls from the right shoulder, and again the dress and hair are similar to the painting. Upper right of sheet: full-length study for the female figure and girl in the painting. The figures are very lightly and roughly drawn. The girl is shown standing, facing the female figure, whereas in the finished work she is seated on the floor.
Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (n+e Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (n+e Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society in 1896; collection of Leighton House Museum
