Interpretation

This is one of many studies of foliage, reproduced with other studies for 'Cymon and Iphigenia', in a publication on the painting, produced by the Fine Art Society. There is similar foliage in the painting, although it is difficult to say for certain that these studies were made with the painting in mind. The plant may be a vine-like climbing plant, such as Virginia creeper, which is native to North America but found throughout Europe.

Description

Study of the branch of a tree in leaf.
