Interpretation

The model for this study named Allessandro, would have been one of the many of local Roman models who served a substantial community of foreign artists working in Rome at the time.

Description

Study for the head of the male figure holding a violin in the painting 'Cimabue's Celebrated Madonna...' (c.1853-55, Royal Collection, Windsor).

Purchased from Durlacher Bros. (art dealer), New York, by David Daniels, 1965; collection of Stevan Beck Baloga; bequeathed to Leighton House Museum by Baloga in 2004
