Interpretation

S. Onofrio is a church and monastery in Rome, built in the 15th Century and restored in 1857.

Description

Page from a sketchbook. View of the church of S. Onofrio with a procession of clergy emerging from the building. A flight of steps lead up from the foreground to a raised, grassed area with the church to the rear and monastic buildings on the right. A landscape can be seen beyond a low wall running along the left of the composition, showing the church to be in an elevated position.
