Interpretation

This study is copied from a relief depicting a bull about to be sacrificed. It is a study of an original Greek relief from the balustrade of the Temple of Athena Nike, Athens, in the Acropolis Museum. (Another Roman copy exists in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.)

Description

Page from a sketchbook. Two animated female figures dressed in swirling draperies are at left and right. Emerging from behind the left hand figure is a bull whose head is lowered and turned to face the viewer.
