Inscriptions: Inscribed lower edge "[six illegible words]" in pencil. The inscriptions are likely to be names or occupations of the figures.

Interpretation

All four figures show janissaries, the infantry force of the Grand Vizier, in their ceremonial dress. The first two figures illustrate the customary large felt hat with a square piece falling behind the head. The front of the hat held a socket of copper which originally held feathers but was later replaced by a spoon.
