The inscription on the reverse of this drawing suggests that it was sent to Adelaide Sartoris by the artist.

Description

Loose sheet within album of drawings. Study for a composition showing a full-length study of a reclining female figure lying on a wall in classical dress. The feet are to the left, and the head to the right of the composition.

Collection of Adelaide Sartoris (ne+ Kemble, opera singer, writer and society hostess, 1814-1879); sold through the Maas Gallery (art dealers) in 1969; purchased by Leighton House Museum in 1969
