Interpretation

Stephen Jones, former curator at Leighton House Museum, suggested this drawing may be an early study for the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to Peace'. The inscriptions on this page may be a list of items required as props for the production of painting.

Purchased by the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, from Geoffrey Steele (antiquarian bookseller, c.1907-2000) from his bookshop at RFD 1, Mahopac, New York, in 1946 for $6.00.
