Interpretation
This page of Leighton's notes on the painting methods of the Old Masters includes references to 'Portrait of Pope Paul III without a Cap' (1543) by Titian, at the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples and Parmigianino (Italian painter, 1503-1540).
Purchased by the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, from Geoffrey Steele (antiquarian bookseller, c.1907-2000) from his bookshop at RFD 1, Mahopac, New York, in 1946 for $6.00.
