Inscribed lower right "Andromache" in pencil. Inscribed on reverse, centre "C37" encircled, in pencil.
Left of sheet: full-length study of a draped female figure, resting a vase sideways on her right shoulder, facing viewer, with her right arm curled around the vase and her left hand supporting the lip of the vase. This may be a study for the figure, just seen in the background at the far left of the canvas. Centre of sheet: full-length study of a draped female figure resting a vase sideways on her right hip. This may relate to the figure left of centre of the painting 'Captive Andromache', although the pose is not identical. Right of sheet: full-length study for the female figure to the left of the canvas, holding a vase at shoulder height.
