Interpretation
The inscription on the former mount of this drawing refers to the completed painting 'Study; at a Reading Desk' (1877, Emma Holt Bequest, Sudley House), which was exhibited at the Royal Academy's Winter Exhibition in 1897 (catalogue number 8), and was then in the collection of a Mrs. George Holt.
Probably collection of Mrs. D'Arcy Heart; sold through Christies (auctioneers) on 02 July 1954 (lot 317); purchased by Agnew's (fine art dealer) (no. 16119); purchased by H. C.
