Description

Left of sheet: study for the central group of female figures in the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to Peace' (1884-86, Victoria and Albert Museum). The traced study is similar to the finished composition, although the three right hand figures differ slightly as they are positioned further from the standing figure, dressing her hair, on the right. Right of sheet: study for the same group of female figure, with one additional female figure. This study is more like the finished work. 

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); presented to the Royal Academy of Arts, London by Matthews and Orr in 1896
